Managing like the private sector? No thank you!
With the New Public Management Theory of the 1980s, which was adopted in Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, and some parts of Canada, public entities have begun to be managed like the private sector (such as promoting a focus on clients and efficiency, pay for performance, and so on). This has also resulted in several universities modifying the way they teach health and business administration in the core curriculum. But was this the right approach?
This event will focus on a comparison between management styles in the public and private sectors. Emphasis will be placed on hospital management, with an explanation regarding the differences in both styles, and discussion on the consequences of teaching management at universities.
Location: University of Ottawa, Room DMS 7170
